| SYNOPSIS: |
| In this new holiday musical spectacular, The Day Before Christmas, there is a flurry of activity at the North Pole. Santa and Mrs. Claus, the elves, the reindeer, the forest animals and even the Toys themselves prepare for the biggest night of the year! It takes a lot of planning and hard work to get a sleigh off the ground and to deliver toys to children around the world, but Santa’s team is ready and willing. Or at least they think they are before a tricky Jack Frost decides to stop the Christmas festivities with a little comical chaos and calamity. The Day Before Christmas promises to surprise and delight the young, the young at heart and everyone in between.
Show will be help at Peter’s Theatre on William Jewell Campus. Performances dates and times are December 14th – 7:30pm, 15th – 2pm & 7:30pm. |
AUDITIONS:

What to do: Be prepared to sing a Christmas song and there will be cold readings provided.
CAST OF CHARACTERS:
(6-9 female, 7-9 male, 4-8 either; doubling possible, gender flexible)
SANTA (m) ………………………………Jolly, happy, and wise as always.
MRS. CLAUS (f)……………………….Pretty and kind. She is worried about everyone and everything.
JACK FROST (m) ……………………..His heart is frozen, and therefore he cannot feel the warmth of Christmas. He has a crush on Suzie, but his cold heart gets in the way. He controls the temperature.
SUZIE SNOWFLAKE (f)……………Sweet and lovely but a bit naïve. She controls the snow. She embodies the beauty of Christmas.

THE REINDEER: The five main reindeer form a singing group. These reindeer are the ‘leads.’ During the Reindeer Tap dance all the other reindeer can appear for that number.

THE TOYS:
DOLLY (f) …………………………..The rag doll. She is a warm, spunky character that desperately wants to be happy. A traditional doll with a rag doll outfit.
SPARKY (m) ……………………….The Robot. He is a silly and funny robot
with a heart of gold. Robbie is an old- fashioned 40-50’s Sci-fi robot. Note: The actor’s face should be visible to the audience.
TOMMY(m)………………………..The toy soldier. A little stiff but later breaks out into a wild dance. He is an old- fashioned toy soldier. Buttoned up and
gleaming.
THE REINDEER MAINTENANCE GROUND CREW: Sporting red and green jumpsuits with the RMGC logo on the sleeve, they are bumbling and funny.
RATCHET (f/m) …………………..The head RM/GC is proud to show off his utility belt which is loaded with “Reindeer Nip,” a couple of jingle bell collars, two or three candy-cane colored tools, and his canister of pixey-flying sparkle dust.
GIZMO (f/m)………………………..Can barely see through his thick-lensed, black-framed glasses as he uses his slide rule to calculate ‘reindeer launch trajectories’ and proper ornament weight- bearing loads for Christmas trees.
EXTRAS: Back-up dancers, all are suggestions.
BARREL OF MONKEYS ……..all the monkeys are primary colors. ARMY MEN………………………..from BAG OF PLASTIC ARMY MEN KEN AND BARBIE DOLLS….each in their Malibu shorts and Hawaiian shirts.
